If you’re looking for a preview of what fashion trends to expect in 2024, you’ve come to the right place. We did some research ourselves and got the scoop from Stitch Fix professional stylists to determine what everyone will be wearing in the upcoming year.

As it turns out, bows, preppy styles, wardrobe basics, and ‘90s and ‘00s fashion are all in.

“I love the idea of investing in timeless, versatile pieces that I know I’ll love for years to come,” says one stylist, Ray Carter. Another Stitch Fix stylist, Stephanie Arroyo, tells us that she's excited for the “denim-on-denim” looks from the 2000s to make a reappearance. “It’s classic without being too dressy or casual,” she notes.

Read on to discover more 2024 fashion trends and how to style them, and shop pieces that you can add to your closet now.

Wardrobe Basics

The perfect non-trend trend is wardrobe basics. Stitch Fix stylists have noticed people requesting classic pieces more frequently, such as button-downs and solid colors. According to stylist Jessica Sockel, “A tucked in button-down is a timeless look. For an office-ready ensemble, style with wide-leg denim and throw on a tie-waist trench coat, worn open to show off the rest of your ‘fit.”

She adds that basics can be worn casually or more dressed up: “Wear denim and your favorite sneakers during the day, then swap with heels when you’re ready for a night out.” And the best part is that these items don’t go out of fashion, so you’ll get plenty of use out of them, and you can endlessly mix and match.

Preppy Styles

Go back to school with academia-inspired styles like blazers and pleated skirts. “Try experimenting with plaid skirts and trousers that can easily be dressed down with a graphic tee while still maintaining a polished, preppy look,” says Stitch Fix stylist Arroyo. The trend also lends itself well to layering, making it perfect for winter. Pair a sweater vest with an oversized blazer, or throw on a cable-knit sweater.

‘90s and Early 2000s

The resurgence of ‘90s and early aughts trends will continue into 2024, and that includes styles like low-rise jeans, maxi skirts, and cargo pants. You’re in luck if you prefer silver jewelry over gold, too, as the tone that was popular in the 1990s is making a comeback.

While cargo pants might be a hit-or-miss for some people, stylist Sockel says that they’re easy to dress up or down. Emiko Strah, another Stitch Fix stylist, adds, “Whether you’re after a more utilitarian, street-style approach or looking for an elevated cargo pant that can be dressed up, there’s a style to match everyone’s unique taste."

Bow Accents

Bows aren’t just for your hair anymore (though you can wear them there, too). They started appearing all over the place last spring, with brands adding them to seemingly everything—from jackets to shoes. And according to Pinterest, searches for “bow outfit” have increased by 190 percent. You can add a mini clip or single bow to your hair or go all in with bow-accented blouses, ballet flats, and accessories.
