There are two types of knitting needles typically used to knit in the round: double pointed and circular needles. Double pointed needles are commonly used for small projects like socks and gloves while circular needles are used for larger projects such as sweaters and skirts. Double pointed needles come in a set and are worked from one needle to the other. While circular needles are a pair of needles connected usually by a cable and are worked in a spiral.
